Business briefs: BofA cuts jobs 

Bank of America Corp. (BAC) said Wednesday that it will eliminate 3,000 jobs, an announcement that came less than a week after the nation’s second-largest bank reported a huge drop in earnings for the third quarter. The cuts will affect less than 2 percent of the company’s staff. Most of them will be from Bank of America’s investment banking unit, the company said.

The Czech government has kicked off a privatization process that could lead to the sale of the beloved brewery considered a national treasure. Czech beer lovers fear that Budvar could even wind up owned by its archrival, U.S. beer giant Anheuser-Busch Cos. (BUD). For more than a century, the two companies have been locked in a bitter trademark battle for rights to the Budweiser name.
