Business briefs: A flying palace

In the annals of excess, it could be a new high: a more than $300 million dollar, super-sized luxury airplane, bought and outfitted solely for the private comfort of a Saudi Arabian billionaire. Once done, the Airbus A380, the world’s biggest passenger plane at 6,000 square feet, will be a "flying palace" for Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the manufacturer announced Monday.

The company’s new campaign, called "My Black is Beautiful," combines marketing with forums meant to foster dialogue about black women and the way they are portrayed in popular culture. The campaign aims at a group with growing buying power, estimated at more than $400 billion. It also fits with a marketing push by P&G, which spends $7 billion a year on global advertising.
