Breathe easier, the smoke has cleared

A health advisory for San Francisco and San Mateo counties may be lifted after strong onshore breezes swept airborne soot from fires in Northern California away this weekend, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Air regulators will meet today to consider the advisory, which has been in place since Wednesday, that urged residents to avoid exposure to the smoky air.

The air pollution led to an increase in incidents of coughing, scratchy throats, asthma and emphysema, district spokesman Jim Smith said.
