Brady issues should become clearer this week

The full scope of the problems that could arise as a result of the District Attorney’s Office failing to release the disciplinary records of police witnesses is expected to become much clearer this week.

District Attorney Kamala Harris has been taking some heat over the issue, but at least her office has since developed a policy. The Police Department, on the other hand, has been taking its time in developing what is called as a “Brady Policy.”

That limbo should be coming to an end. The Department is close to tracking down the total amount of officers and other police employees who have disciplinary actions in their files, and the policy is expected to be discussed at the Police Commission on Wednesday.
