Boyd leads Cal women past UCLA

LOS ANGELES -- Brittany Boyd had 24 points and eight assists on Sunday to lead Cal past UCLA 72-57.

Boyd made 6 of 11 field goals, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range, and 9 of 10 free throws.

A 3-pointer by Boyd started a 15-0 run which gave Cal (14-5, 6-2) a 52-36 lead with 10:40 to play. Courtney Range hit two 3's and scored eight points during that stretch and UCLA (8-11, 4-4) trailed by at least 13 the rest of the way.

UCLA jumped out to a 10-0 lead as Cal missed its first eight field goal attempts, but the Golden Bears made 24 of 43 (55.8 percent) shots from there and converted the Bruins' 19 turnovers into 35 points.

Range finished with 11 points for Cal and Mercedes Jefflo added 10.

Nirra Fields led UCLA, which shot just 35 percent and made 2 of 10 from 3-point range, with 19 points on 8-of-24 shooting.
