Boy charged in Halloween shooting to be tried as adult 

A 16-year-old boy who is accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Ichinkhorloo "Iko" Bayarsaikhan at an Alameda park on Halloween night is scheduled to be arraigned on murder charges in adult court Tuesday, according to Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Matt Golde.

Golde said the suspected shooter is the only one of the six suspects in the case who is being charged as an adult. He said two others were charged with murder Friday and will have detention hearings in Alameda County Juvenile Court on Tuesday afternoon. Golde said the other three suspects will be charged with murder Tuesday and will have detention hearings Wednesday.

All the suspects also will be charged with armed robbery, Golde said.

Bayarsaikhan, a junior at Alameda High School, was shot about 10 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Washington Park at 799 Central Ave. while she and a group of about 10 friends were being robbed by a large group of suspects, according to police.

Alameda police Lt. Art Fuentes said Friday, "There was no personal relationship between the victims’ group and the suspects’ group." Fuentes said the incident was "a random robbery that turned into a homicide."

Three of the suspects were arrested Thursday night and three were arrested Friday morning. One suspect is 13 years old, two are 15 and three are 16.

Prosecutors on Friday dismissed charges against two 16-year-old Oakland boys who were arrested last week and charged with murder in connection with the crime.

Fuentes said those two boys "may have been in the general vicinity of the homicide and peripherally associated to the suspect group but not specifically involved in the robbery attempt or homicide."
