Book sale will benefit city libraries

Starting on Thursday, bookworms will have a chance to pick up some extra reading on the cheap, while also giving back to The City’s public libraries.

San Francisco’s 45th annual Big Book Sale will feature over 300,000 books, DVDs, vinyl records and other materials, all going for under $5. All proceeds from the event, which is the largest book sale on the West Coast, will benefit the San Francisco Public Library.

Last year the event, hosted by the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, raised $265,000 for The City’s lending institutions. The money helped fund city-backed programs that promote literacy for San Francisco’s children and adults.

The Big Book Sale, which runs from Thursday until Sunday, will be held at the Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion.
