Bob Weir teams up with Marin Symphony Orchestra

Sometimes when the ads promise “One night only!” it turns into some tedious extended run that was never so special in the first place.

But this time, they damn sure mean it.

On May 7 at the Marin Center in San Rafael, legendary local luminary Bob Weir is teaming up with the Marin Symphony Orchestra for an evening of reinterpreted classics from Weir’s old band, The Grateful Dead, in a benefit concert for the 58-year-old orchestra itself.

An undeniably rare occasion, right?

This “First Fusion” project was conceived by Weir and Stanford University’s Dr. Giancarlo Aquilanti. It will employ no less than 50 musicians, and will also feature noted Weir alums like Rob Wasserman, Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane and Robin Sylvester. Pre-sale tickets are already available at www.gdtstoo.com. But Friday, they may be procured through the box office directly (415) 499-6800 or through www.ticketmaster.com.
