Bob Seger still the same, set to rock San Francisco soon

We don’t want to get your hopes up too much. But it’s apparently going to happen — the actual date just isn’t set in stone yet. Bob Seger is currently booking a second leg of his successful 2011 North American tour, with a reported stop occurring right here in San Francisco.

He also has two albums in the works — one featuring brand-new material, plus a second set of archive rarities, “Early Seger, Volume 2.” Which will only add to the Michigan native’s incredible legacy of 51 million records sold, with a real cornucopia of a “Greatest Hits” package that’s sold 9 million by itself and remained on Billboard’s Top 200 for a record 16 years straight.

And by all accounts, Seger — now in his mid-’60s — is on fire this tour. He’s lost nearly 50 pounds on the Nutrisystem diet, and is in workout-trim shape for the demanding road. Last time we spoke with him, he noted his favorite Bay Area ritual, as well, wherein he always flies one of his motorcycles for any appearance out here, just so he can ride it across the Golden Gate bridge and drive solo up the coast.

His only remaining vice seems to be cigarettes, which perhaps accounts for that eternally raspy singing style his fans treasure. But stay tuned here for the date and venue, or tune into
