Financial shows can be boring, but calling Twitter executives a bunch of stoners might not be the best way to spice them up.

Kooky venture capitalist Peter Thiel, reportedly the inspiration for the Peter Gregory character on HBO's "Silicon Valley," gave staid CNBC viewers some pungent financial advice Wednesday.

"It's a horribly mismanaged company," Thiel said of San Francisco-based Twitter on "Squawk Box." "The people -- probably a lot of pot-smoking going on there."

But, like any mom who's just found a bottle of Visine in her teen's sock drawer, he did point out that "they have a lot of potential."

The billionaire -- who, as pointed out, pays young entrepreneurs money to not go to college and is trying to fund a self-sustained floating city -- happens to be an investor in several Twitter competitors.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo wasn't bummed by the criticism. In response to a colleague's comment about the bud brouhaha, he tweeted, "working my way through a giant bag of Doritos. I'll catch up with you later."

Barely vertical French actor Gerard Depardieu gave day drinkers everywhere something to aspire to when he recently told a U.K. film magazine he downs "12, 13, 14" bottles of wine a day.

According to the U.K.'s nominally reliable Daily Mirror, Depardieu told So Film, "It starts at home with Champagne or red wine, before 10 a.m. Then again Champagne ... then food, accompanied by two bottles of wine. ..."

However, he insists he never truly gets wasted: "All you need is a 10-minute nap and voila, a slurp of rosé wine and I feel as fresh as a daisy."

A daisy who has injured himself while drunken driving and undergone heart-bypass surgery, but still, a daisy.
