Bill Cosby asks for funny captions, stirs up jabs about rape scandal

Bill Cosby's little joke has backfired with a vengeance.

On Monday, the 77-year-old comedy legend tweeted an invitation to caption goofy photos on his website. Instead of slapping light-hearted jokes over Cosby's mug, Twitter users chose to highlight numerous rape allegations against the former "Cosby Show" star.

"Go ahead. Meme me!" Cosby tweeted Monday. A link to his website encouraged visitors to add all-caps lettering to photos in a style usually reserved for images of wacky cats.

"MY TWO FAVORITE THINGS -- JELLO PUDDING AND RAPE," screams one photo widely retweeted with the hashtag #cosbymeme. Another reads, "14 ALLEGATIONS OF RAPE?! ZIPZOPZUBITTYBOP!"

According to Salon.com, allegations of sexual assault against Cosby resurfaced this year after his biographer Mark Whitaker was heavily criticized for omitting a woman's 2006 lawsuit from his new book "Cosby: His Life and Times." The woman's lawsuit, which included the accusations of several other women, accused Cosby of drugging and raping her. The case was settled out of court.

Comedian Hannibal Buress also drew attention to the allegations and Cosby's "Telfon image" during a comedy routine that went viral on YouTube last month.

Cosby's site quickly pulled down the meme generator, but not before one person used it to capture the fiasco: "MY SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER DID WHAT?"
