Bikes dominated Market Street this morning

Bicycles dominated traffic that traveled this morning down Market Street on Bike to Work Day.

City counts show that bicycles accounted for 75 percent of the eastbound traffic traveling between 8 and 9 a.m. along the busy corridor at Van Ness Avenue.

Cars and trucks are not presently allowed to travel all the way down the corridor, where green bike paths were recently painted.

“This newly separated, green bike lane,” Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement, “is one example of how we can make Market Street safer and more bike-friendly.”
