Bike Coalition endorses John Avalos for mayor, ranks David Chiu second, Ed Lee third

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, a politically influential organization with over 10,000 members, has announced its preferred candidates for mayor.

John Avalos, a member of the progressive bloc of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, was endorsed as the top choice for the bike coalition. Fellow Supervisor David Chiu ranked second, and current interim mayor Ed Lee came in third (the coalition only listed three endorsements).

In opting to go with Avalos as its first pick, the bike coalition praised the mayoral candidate’s efforts in securing funding for cycling-related projects in The City. They also gave him kudos for being a frequent bike-rider, and for supporting Sunday Streets, the weekend event in which local roads are shut down to motorists and opened up for pedestrians and cyclists.
