BART trains are delayed Thursday afternoon because of a crash involving a big-rig and another vehicle on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 between Dublin and Pleasanton that sent one of the vehicles onto nearby BART tracks, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 2:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 580 just west of Foothill Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Marc Johnston said.

One of the vehicles ended up on BART's right-of-way between the agency's West Dublin/Pleasanton and Castro Valley stations, BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said.

BART trains are single-tracking through the area, so passengers on the Dublin/Pleasanton line can expect delays of about 10 minutes until the vehicle is removed, Salaver said.

The driver of the big-rig appeared to be injured, but the extent of the injuries was not immediately available, Johnston said.

The crash was blocking the two left eastbound lanes of Highway 580 as of 3:10 p.m.

Johnston said the lanes could remain blocked until about 5 p.m., and advised drivers to take alternate routes.
