Big fracking deal: Cramer grills Rep. Hinchey, D-N.Y. over natural gas bill

Jim Cramer of Mad Money last night interviewed Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., about his attempt to ban the use of hydraulic fracturing (or "fracking"), the process that has turned huge swaths of upstate New York and Pennsylvania into natural gas gold mines.

As Hinchey would have it, he's really trying to protect the gas industry's good name by interfering with the method it has used for decades to extract gas from the ground. Cramer notes that gas, which is cleaner than oil or coal, will have to play a much larger role in electrical generation if Americans migrate toward renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar, and that a measure like this could actually result in the use of more dirty coal.
