Bicyclist killed trying to cross Highway 101 identified

A 30-year-old man who was killed late Saturday night in Burlingame trying to cross U.S. Highway 101 on a bicycle has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as Edwin Lopez Casco.

Casco, a Burlingame resident, was apparently trying to bike across the highway near Broadway at about 10:40 p.m. when he was struck in the northbound lanes by a green Honda Accord, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel said.

He was then hit by a second northbound vehicle, and died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The drivers of both vehicles stopped and cooperated with investigators.

Alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
