Bernal Heights robbery turns into a carjacking

Two men were assaulted and one of them was robbed of his car and several other items in Bernal Heights early this morning, police said.

The two men, aged 20 and 45, were also with a woman, 21, and were walking to the younger man’s green BMW 745 parked near Alemany Boulevard and Putnam Street about 12:15 a.m. Three men in their 20s approached and demanded their property, police said.

The two male victims attempted to fight off the crooks. The 20-year-old victim was slashed in the chest with a knife and the older victim was struck in the arm, police said.

One of the suspects then pulled out a handgun and the fighting stopped, police said.

The 20-year-old man turned over his cellphone, wallet and car keys to the crooks and they fled the scene in his car southbound on Interstate 280 toward Daly City, police said.

The victims’ injuries were not considered life-threatening and no arrests were made.
