Bernal Heights home catches fire

A two-story house in Bernal Heights caught fire Tuesday morning.

The flames likely started in the garage of 478 Nevada Street at 7:44 a.m., and when firefighters arrived it was engulfed in smoke, said fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge.

All the occupants were able to evacuate safely and no injuries were reported, she said.

The one-alarm fire spread to the first floor and between its neighboring buildings, and filled the attic with smoke.

The time of the containment was not available; however, it was at most within an hour.

The cause has not been determined, but Talmadge said she did not hear about it sounding suspicious.
