Benevolent bikers to serve Thanksgiving feast

A group of hogs hope to make a delicious Thanksgiving this year for those in San Mateo County who might not be able to afford a celebratory feast of their own.

On Saturday, members of the San Mateo Harley Owners Group (HOG) will offer up a fleet of about 20 Harley-Davidsons as a motorcycle escort delivering food donations to the nonprofit social services agency Samaritan House.

The rumbling motorcade will accompany a Samaritan House truck filled with donations for the charity's Thanksgiving and Holiday Programs, arriving at the group's office at 401 N. Humboldt St. in San Mateo between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The food items, sponsored by the Ladies of Harley, were collected from Samaritan House donation barrels at Peninsula Harley in Redwood City.

On Thanksgiving Day, Samaritan House will welcome the community for a traditional holiday meal of turkey and stuffing, cranberry sauce, vegetables and desserts. The meal will be served from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the MartinLuther King Community Center, located at 725 Monte Diablo Ave. in San Mateo.

Samaritan House, established in 1974, offers food, clothing, shelter, medical care, case management and job assistance free of charge to thousands of low-income families in San Mateo County.
