Bench sparks VCU past Towson 67-42

Rob Brandenberg scored 16 points to help Virginia Commonwealth beat Towson 67-42 on Wednesday night for its sixth straight win.

VCU (17-5, 8-2 Colonial Athletic Association) has won 17 of 18 meetings between the schools, winning by an average of 18.2 points per game.

Despite VCU's three top scorers, Juvonte Reddic, Brandford Burgess, and Troy Daniels going a combined 3 for 13 from the field in the first half, the Rams took a 35-17 lead into halftime behind the scoring of Brandenberg.

The 6-foot-2 guard entered the game early for the struggling Rams and scored VCU's first eight points and finished with 10 in the first half.

The win marks the third straight opponent and sixth this season that VCU has held under 50 points.

Towson (0-22, 0-10) has lost 41 straight games dating back to last season.

Robert Nwankwo had 16 points for the Tigers.
