UPDATE: In the original police report Tuesday morning, cops said a shooting happened in the 100 block of Turk Street on Monday night. That was a typo, police said. The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Turk Street.

Another shooting in the Tenderloin on Monday night continued an alarming string of gunplay in the drug-addled neighborhood.

It was one of two shootings within a two-hour period Monday.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the face in the 1100 block of Turk Street around 8:30 p.m., police said.

The victim, who is expected to survive, heard gunshots and ran into an apartment. Then the victim “realized he was shot in the face,” according to a preliminary police report released Tuesday. There have been no arrests, and further information on the shooting was not available, police said.

The second shooting was reported around 10:15 p.m. at Jones and McAllister streets. A 38-year-old man was sitting outside when he got into an argument with a suspect. The suspect shot him twice, then fled. The victim is expected to survive, police said.

The first three homicides of 2011 occurred in the Tenderloin and surrounding areas, which are a hotbed for drug-dealing.

Larry Lacy, 20, was shot dead while sitting on the sidewalk at the corner of Turk and Taylor streets on Jan. 2, police said. The following night, 41-year-old Charles Harrison was fatally shot in the torso outside the strip club, New Century Theater, at 816 Larkin St.

On Thursday, in one of the more brazen killings of the new year, a gunman chased a man into the Jabena coffee shop at 990 Polk St., shot him multiple times, then fled. The suspect stole a bag from Terry Turner, 29, of San Francisco, before killing him.

Two days later, a bullet grazed a man’s head at Turk and Larkin streets. On Thursday, a 24-year-old man was stabbed during an argument in the unit block of Taylor Street.

Police were not available to comment on the uptick in violence Tuesday morning.
