SAN FRANCISCO — Automakers expressed qualified support for California's proposed rules to require carmakers to build more electric and other less-polluting hybrid cars and trucks by 2025. Hearing scheduled to reconvene at 8:30 a.m., with vote expected.

SAN FRANCISCO — Actress Cynthia Nixon is standing firm amid the minor media firestorm she knowingly unleashed when she insisted during a magazine interview that for her, being gay was a choice. Nixon's remarks to The New York Times Magazine has some gay rights activists fretting they will become fodder for conservative activists who argue that gay men and lesbians should be denied civil rights protections because they allegedly choose their sexual orientations. Scientific research on the subject so far has failed to satisfy either side.

SAN FRANCISCO — Travelers going through San Francisco International Airport's Terminal Two have a new way to relax before their flights. What may be the first airport yoga studio ever has opened there.

SAN FRANCISCO — Twitter has refined its technology so it can censor messages on a country-by-country basis.

NEW YORK — Chevron Corp. said net income slipped 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter as its refineries struggled to pass on the higher cost of crude oil.


SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A group of Republicans will find out if their attempt to block newly drawn state Senate maps from being used in this year's elections was successful. The California Supreme Court announced that it would release its decision on which boundaries should be used for the June primary and November general election. Will be led from decision, expected to be published about 10 a.m.


LOS ANGELES — The recording of the 911 emergency call that led to Demi Moore's hospitalization may be released.

LOS ANGELES — Gusty Santa Ana winds blow through Southern California, raising fire danger.

LOS ANGELES — Arraignment expected for serial killer Chester Turner, who is already serving on California's death row for the murders of 10 women and an unborn fetus and is now charged with killing four additional women.
