Bayview stabbing victim was retired merchant mariner

A retired merchant mariner was stabbed to death in broad daylight in the Bayview on Wednesday, the second homicide in the neighborhood in a 24-hour period, police said.

Luther Robinson, 54, was found in the 1400 block of Mendell Avenue near the intersection of Palou Avenue and Third Street about 1 p.m., police Sgt. Daryl Fong said. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died, Fong said.

Few details about the suspect were provided to police, but the stabbing reportedly resulted from an argument. No arrest had been made as of Thursday.

Robinson’s younger cousin, underground rapper/producer Mr.Bochie.Da.2nd, tweeted on Wednesday night about his loss.

“R.I.P. Big cousin Luther Robinson ... You loved and you being gone is touching a lot of your family and people,” the cousin tweeted.

The stabbing was The City’s seventh homicide of the year and the fourth by stabbing. Derek Hall, 30, was shot to death Tuesday, also in the Bayview.

Police are asking anyone with further information on Robinson’s killing to contact Inspector Gianrico Pierucci at (415) 553-1997. Witnesses also can report tips anonymously to (415) 575-4444 or by text to TIP411.
