Bay Bridge toll hike to be finalized

After months of debate, the proposal to raise toll costs on seven Bay Area bridges could be finalized on Wednesday.

The Bay Area Toll Authority, a regional group that oversees operations for the area’s state-owned bridges (not including Golden Gate Bridge), will vote on a toll-increase package that includes a $1 hike to six local spans, and a $2 increase to the Bay Bridge for motorists traveling during peak travel times. Crossing the Bay Bridge would cost $6 during the morning and evening commutes, $5 during the weekend, and $4 during off-peak weekday travel.

If approved, the toll increases, which are projected to generate $165 million annually, would go into effect on July 1.
