Batkid, Spider-Man mystery solved

The mystery of Andrew Garfield’s absence at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony – and its connection to San Francisco’s beloved Batkid – has been solved.

After a segment featuring the “Spider-Man” actor and Batkid Miles Scott was cut from the Oscars at the last minute, Garfield opted to spend the day with Miles and his family at Disneyland, Us Weekly reports.

“Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production,” a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences told the magazine.

Reports that Garfield, who was slated to present 5-year-old Miles as a real-life superhero at the Oscars, stormed off because he disliked the script apparently aren’t true.

TMZ reports that Garfield eased Batkid’s disappointment by accompanying him to the theme park, and even conducting a mini Oscars ceremony in the boy’s hotel room – tuxes and all.
