Bat-wielding bandit attacks victim, steals wristwatch in SoMa

A bat-wielding bandit brutally assaulted a 32-year-old man last night in the SoMa district, attacking the victim with blows to the head before making off with his wristwatch.

The victim, a 32-year-old male, was walking by a Shell gas station at 10:42 p.m. on Fourth and Bryant streets when the suspect struck him in the head with a baseball bat, according to Lt. Troy Dangerfield of the San Francisco Police Department. The victim was knocked to the ground by the blow and the suspect then snatched his Rolex, Dangerfield said.

The victim was transferred to San Francisco General Hospital, although his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The police haven’t made any arrests in the case, but the department plans on reviewing footage from the gas station’s nearby surveillance cameras to see if there is any evidence of the attack, Dangerfield said. The victim said he would be able to identify the suspect, who was described as a white male in his 20s. The victim said he did nothing to provoke the attack and had never met the suspect before.
