BART service was slowed this morning after police stopped a train at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station to investigate a report of an assault, a BART spokesman said.

The crime was reported at 7:40 a.m., prompting police to stop the train and search it, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

The train was released just after 8 a.m., but the incident caused delays of up to 30 minutes, he said.

BART police Officer Era Jenkins said initial reports indicated that three to four suspects had battered a female victim.

She said the victim is being treated for her injuries, and that the suspects have not been found.

The incident remains under investigation.
