BART to offer New Year's Eve passes

Bay Area Rapid Transit will once again be offering a "Flash Pass" on New Year's Eve to encourage revelers to use public transit and avoid driving.

Passes are $6 and will give holders unlimited rides from 6 p.m. Dec. 31 to 3 a.m. Jan. 1, according to BART. Train service will be extended that night.

"Celebrators won't have to worry about missing that last train at midnight," BART board president Lynette Sweet said in a statement. "We hope that our New Year's Flash Pass and longer service hours encourage New Year's revelers to drive less and use BART instead."

BART has 7,000 Flash Passes for sale. They are available at Safeway stores in the greater Bay Area, the customer service center at the Lake Merritt BART station or at the MyTransitPlus stores in San Francisco.
