BART to begin modernization work on Powell Street Station next month

Work on a 20-month project to clean up the Powell Street BART Station will begin in April.

The transit agency will embark on a modernization project of the heavily used transit station. Upgrades will include new illuminated signage, asbestos abatement, waterproofing and partial removal of walls for better circulation.

While most of the project will take place during regular operating hours, it is not expected to interfere with customer access.

The project is forecast to be finished in the winter of 2012.
