BART police to host community events tonight at six stations

With its relationship to the public decidedly tense since the July 3 fatal shooting of Charles Hill, BART police will host six community gatherings tonight as part of the National Night Out event.

Local residents and passengers are encouraged to come out and meet with BART’s police officers between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the following stations: Union City, Coliseum, West Dublin, Ashby, Orinda and 16th Street in San Francisco.

Coinciding with the national crime-prevention effort, the gatherings will give the chance for the department to strengthen its ties with the community while allowing officers to give safety tips to passengers, BART said.
