BART delayed after wheelchair-bound man falls onto tracks

No BART trains were running through Powell Station for about a half-hour Thursday morning after a wheelchair-bound passenger fell onto the tracks, a transit agency spokesman said.

Riders faced delays of up to 20 minutes or more at around 6:30 a.m. Trains headed into San Francisco from the East Bay turned back at Embarcadero Station, spokesman Linton Johnson said. Trains coming from the Peninsula were turning around at 24th Street Station.

BART crews safely and swiftly removed the rider from the tracks in about 20 minutes, and trains were again running through Powell Station by 6:50 a.m., Johnson said. However, riders endured residual delays.
