Attack ads getting out of hand? Thank the 1800s. 

It seems that complaining about attack ads is a good way to seem above it all — for example, Matt Lauer lecturing California’s two gubernatorial candidates, asking that they stop their attack ads. Well, imagine an even darker period of our history — involving John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. From Reason:
