Atherton blaze controlled without burning living area of home

A fire at an Atherton home Thursday afternoon was controlled before the flames reached the living area of the abode, a Menlo Park Fire Protection District official said.

The fire, reported around 2 p.m., was contained to the home's patio and attic and structures outside the residence. The flames were kept out of the home's living area, fire inspector Jon Johnston said. The blaze did spread to some trees on the property and started a small fire on a neighbor's roof, he said.

No one was home at the time the fire started.
