Arts budget makes hacks to cultural centers

So it happened; The City’s cultural centers that for decades have incubated local artists have been made to bear the brunt of the Arts Commission’s mandatory budgetary cuts.

Commissioners at their regular meeting Monday approved their $7 million budget for the next fiscal year with these cutbacks:

Administration: $56,019
Cultural Centers: $285,399
Arts enhancement account: $194,157
Cultural Equity Grants: $94,597

President Luis Cancel has also said a WritersCorps program that serves low-income, incarcerated, immigrant, homeless and educationally disadvantaged youth is also dangerously close to the chopping block.
