Art & Entertainment: Places to go, people to see

Most recently, Gilby Clarke gained fame from his stint as a guitarist with Rockstar Supernova; in the early 1990s, he played with Guns N’ Roses. Through the years, he’s produced, played with former Guns bandmates and others and worked on his solo career. He’s released a bunch of solo albums; his latest, simply called "Gilby Clarke," is a "best of" compilation released this year.

He plays a gig this week with Jetboy, the punk-glam-hard rock combo that began in San Francisco in the 1980s. The band’s lineup features original members — vocalist Mickey Finn and guitarists Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe — and Michael Butler on bass and Tim Huthert on drums.

Vin Rouge and Ari Shine are also on the bill. The show is at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Fat City, 314 11th St., San Francisco. Tickets are $18 to $20. Call (415) 861-2890 or visit www.ticketfusion.com.

Taylor Hicks

See where "American Idol" takes people? His "Soul Patrol" followers will be out in force when R&B popster Taylor Hicks appears at 8 p.m. today at the Warfield, 982 Market St., S.F. Tickets are $39.50 to $55. Call (415) 775-7722 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.

Indie music festival

Independent musicians have the spotlight at the 11th annual Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival, an 11-day celebration happening at about two dozen San Francisco venues. Performers include Veronica Klaus and her quartet, Marcus Shelby and his quartet, the Contractions, Rykarda Parasol, Mariee Sioux, and Gary Higgins (pictured; he headlines a show with Sean Smith and P.G. Six at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Swedish American Hall, 2174 Market St.). The festival begins Thursday and runs through May 20 at various sites. Visit www.mcmf.org for the full schedule.
