Arson investigation underway in Marina portable toilet fire

For the third time in a month a portable toilet was set ablaze overnight, but this time it was in the Marina district.

The fire was reported at 3:48 a.m. at 2258 Francisco St. Arson investigators were called to the scene.

Last weekend an arsonist set fire to a toilet on Haight Street, and a couple weeks prior one was burned down at 1818 Broadway.

A total of 27 portable toilets were torched between November 2008 and March of this year. The most recent arsons put an end to a long hiatus in the attacks.

Most of the arsons in the previous spate of attacks took place in the Russian Hill area in the late-night and early-morning hours.

However, arson investigators cannot say for certain if all of those attacks and the current fires are connected.

No injuries have been reported and no arrests were made.
