Arrest made in East Palo Alto after stabbing hospitalizes woman

A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized after being stabbed in East Palo Alto Wednesday evening, and a suspect was arrested shortly afterward, a police detective said Thursday.

Shortly before 6:45 p.m., the stabbing was reported in the 2500 block of Emmett Way, East Palo Alto police Detective Kevin Ferreira said.

Officers arrived to the area and found the victim in front of a home and suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive, Ferreira said.

Shortly afterward, the suspect was spotted walking away from the area wearing bloody clothing and was arrested, according to Ferreira. Police could not release any other details about the suspect pending further investigation into the case, he said.

Investigators believe the stabbing happened after some sort of verbal confrontation between the victim and the suspect.

The victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso and neck area. She later identified her attacker, who was booked into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is encouraged to contact Detective Kevin Ferreira at (650) 799-5372 or the East Palo Alto police anonymous tip line at (650) 853-8477.
