Arrest made in connection with fight that led to Redwood City man’s death 

A man was beaten to death in unincorporated Redwood City on Monday night and an arrest has been made in connection with the incident, San Mateo County sheriff’s Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said in a statement.

Deputies arrived at the 3100 block of Middlefield Road about 8:15 p.m. on reports of two men fighting, Rosenblatt said. The deputies saw one man lying on the ground motionless and another man standing nearby.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Rosenblatt said. The 46-year-old Redwood City resident’s identity was not released pending notification of family.

The man standing near the victim was arrested and charged with murder. He was identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Paul Ahern, 53, of Redwood City.

Ahern remains in custody on no-bail status.
