Another Oakland restaurant robbed

Oakland police today are investigating the Monday night armed robbery of an Italian restaurant in the city's Rockridge neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

The robbery took place at Pasta Pomodoro, 5500 College Ave., around 10:50 p.m. and is the latest in a series of armed robberies targeting restaurants in the city.

Two gunmen wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts entered the restaurant and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business, which closed at 10 p.m.

No customers were in the restaurant at the time of the robbery, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.

Marco Ditano, general manager of the restaurant, said the incident was unfortunate but that the business is moving on and has the support of the community.

It was not immediately clear whether the robbery was connected with others that have occurred in the city in recent weeks, Thomason said. Bay City News
