Another Newsom staffer out the door

Get out your Mayor Gavin Newsom staff departure checklist.

The latest staffer to move on from Newsom’s dwindling office is Jason Chan, who worked most recently as the Mayor’s liaison to boards and commissions.

Chan sent an e-mail notifying his colleagues that he was moving on to a position at the airport, and he thanked Newsom after five years of service.

The young Democrat has close ties to former Police Commission President Theresa Sparks, who has been considering a run for the soon to be vacated supervisorial seat in District 6.

Newsom recently hired four new employees who had close ties to his failed gubernatorial campaign. Newsom spokesman Joe Arellano said the mayor’s office was fortunate to have Chan on staff for so long.

“After 5 years in City Hall as our liaison to the Asian community and our commission secretary, it was natural that he would want to move on and try something new,” Arellano wrote in an email. “Mayor Newsom is thankful for his service to the City and County of San Francisco and wishes him all the best.”
