Another Newsom party draws crowds in LA

Mayor Gavin Newsom time-warped to the 1990s at the Democratic convention in Los Angeles Friday night with a Lisa Loeb concert catered by chef Wolfgang Puck.

Loeb and Newsom probably had a few things to talk about considering the cat-eyed singer is a steadfast supporter of same-sex marriage. The party also featured Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden in the DJ booth, though to be fair, Madden attained fame in an entirely different millennium.

Newsom may be gaining a reputation for throwing some hot-ticket parties. He recently had Wyclef Jean MC a Sacramento shindig, and during the national convention in Denver he hosted a party with bands Silversun Pickups, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the Cold War Kids and Nada Surf.

How about a show in San Francisco?

We hear that his Democratic challenger in the lieutenant governor race, Janice Hahn, had her own competing party Friday night, complete with chocolate and martinis, or was that chocolate martinis?
