Another GOP doctor wins a seat in the House

One side-effect of the passage of Obamacare is that a lot of doctors, fearing the destruction of the health care system to which they have dedicated their lives, have been motivated to run for public office. One of those is Dr. Larry Bucshon, a heart surgeon in Evansville, Indiana. Just-in results show that Bucshon defeating Democrat Trent Van Haaften.

Back in March, Bucshon, who has never run for public office, told me he decided to take action as he watched the first few months of the Obama administration. "It became clear to me that what he said in the campaign -- big government, more spending, more federal government control -- was what he was really going to do," Bucshon said. Obamacare, Bucshon said, "will basically decimate the health care system in America. The number of doctors who are going to retire, and the number of young people who are no longer going to go into medicine, will be massive."

Among the GOP's recruits for the House, at least 31 percent come from the medical profession, and at least 24 or them are physicians.
