Another drug lab scandal erupting in California

Just as San Francisco studies the feasibility of farming out crime lab duties to other labs, another scandal is brewing with a state Department of Justice lab in the Central Valley where a lab tech is suspected of taking methamphetamine.

District attorneys from five counties — Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Merced, Tuolumne and Calaveras — that use the lab's services announced Thursday that an investigation has been launched by the state Justice Department, the Modesto Bee reports.

Much like the San Francisco debacle, thousands of cases could be jeopardized if there are consistently different weights of drug evidence.
