American Idol asks city for permission to close intersection near Pier 48

American Idol organizers will hand out wristbands for auditions starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday at 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard by Pier 48.

It’s the front of the line for tryouts in AT&T Park and if you get one, you have to go back at 5 a.m. Thursday.

But since the event is expected to draw a large crowd, organizers are asking The City’s Interdepartmental Staff Committee on Traffic and Transportation if they can attain the permits necessary to close the intersection to traffic from Monday at 5 p.m. until Thursday at 1 p.m.

It’s the last round of tryouts before the 2011 season.

However, the website says “auditioners will not be permitted to camp out.”
