All lanes open after big rigs crash on 880

All lanes of Interstate Highway 880 are open in Oakland after a crash involving two big rigs shut down two lanes for nearly four hours Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Units responded to reports of a crash involving a big rig on northbound Highway 880 just south of a junction with Interstate Highway 80 at around 1:05 a.m., CHP Officer Ralf Caggiano said.

Two big rigs apparently crashed and blocked two right lanes until the roadway was fully cleared at about 4:45 a.m., Caggiano said.

One of the truck drivers was taken to Highland Hospital with moderate injuries.

One of the big rig trailers was empty at the time of the crash, Caggiano said, and the other was carrying a load of fruit.
