Albany High School lockdown lifted, suspect arrested

A lockdown at Albany High School has been lifted after a suspect in an earlier theft in Berkeley was arrested inside the school, according to law enforcement officials.

Earlier today a woman reported that her purse had been stolen at Elephant Pharmacy, located at 1607 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley, Berkeley police Lt. Andrew Greenwood said.

The victim then noticed that her car was missing from the parking lot, Greenwood said. Her car keys had apparently been in the purse that was stolen.

Elephant Pharmacy reported the theft at 12:28 p.m., Greenwood said.

A short time later, the victim's boyfriend spotted the stolen car in Richmond.

The boyfriend chased the vehicle, which was occupied by two male juveniles, into Albany, where at least one of the suspects fled into Albany High School, prompting a lockdown.

Police subsequently arrested at least one of the suspects inside the high school, according to police.

The lockdown was lifted shortly after 2 p.m., according to police.
