Alan Cumming graces AIDS fundraiser in San Francisco 

Violet Eyes in the Red City: The Foundation for AIDS Research’s annual fundraiser Friday at Ken Fulk Studio in The City was hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen, and featured a performance by Alan Cumming. Chairs for the event — a dinner created by Gary Danko followed by a Moroccan-themed party — were Mario Diaz, Ken Fulk, Maggie Rizer Mehran and Alex Mehran.

Free clinics, Walden House merge

Be the Change: On Nov. 1 at the Fairmont Hotel, Haight Ashbury Free Clinics and Walden House celebrated their merger at a breakfast honoring each organization’s unique history. Both were founded in the Haight district in the late 1960s to provide medical care, mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment; their union represents an effort to strengthen services in tough economic times.

USF honors Daniel Lurie with prize for public service

USF California Prize celebration: On Nov. 1 at the University of San Francisco, Tipping Point founder Daniel Lurie received the 2011 USF California Prize for Service and the Common Good. USF President Stephen A. Privett and Lurie gave inspirational speeches; KPIX's Liam Mayclem was the evening's master of ceremonies.
