Alabama mayor refuses mobile homes for tornado-stricken residents

Mayor Jack Scott of Cordova, Ala., seems determined to keep his tornado-devastated town 35 miles outside Birmingham free of mobile homes. He is refusing to waive a local ban on single-wide trailers, which means homeless residents can’t stay in temporary mobile homes delivered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Two twisters hit Cordova on April 27, killing four people and cutting a half-mile-wide swath of destruction through the blue-collar, 2,000-population town.
