Al Gore endorses Alioto-Pier in SF mayoral race

Former Vice President Al Gore has weighed in on the San Francisco mayoral race, and he wants you to vote for one of his former policy aides -- Michela Alioto-Pier -- one of 11 primary candidates vying for The City’s top post.

“I’ve known Michela for a long time,” Gore said in press release from Alioto-Pier’s campaign. “She is an innovative and creative policymaker, and I know she is the right choice to be the next mayor of San Francisco.”

Alioto-Pier, a former supervisor, said she’s thrilled to receive the endorsement and that her work with Gore in the 1990s shaped her view of government.

“Vice President Gore truly believed government could be a force for good, and pushed those of us on his staff to keep the country on the leading edge of environment policy, economics and education,” Alioto-Pier said in the release.

Gore is no stranger to the Bay Area as a member of the Apple board of directors and an adviser to Google. He also co-founded the San Francisco-based Current TV.
