Ainslie transitioning from Olympic mode

One skipper in today’s America’s Cup World Series events will find himself at something of a disadvantage compared to his competitors, though it’s safe to say Ben Ainslie will take the trade off.

Ainslie is coming fresh off winning a gold medal in the men’s finn sailing event at the London Olympics and will be facing a new challenge today as he moves from the biggest stage in sports to sailing’s toughest competition.

“It’s a completely different challenge, being a part of a team,” he said. “These folks are hard to handle so, being more conservative in the approach. And I’ve got to find my way, it’s the first time I’ve sailed these types of boats, so I’ve got to really learn a lot in this short period of time.”

Ben Ainslie Racing enters the competition as the lowest seed at No. 11 by virtue of not having participated in the earlier events. They will face No. 6 Team Korea in a best-of-three series in the match qualifier.
